GROUNDBREAKING COLLABORATION: SIDPEC AND HITACHI ZOSEN INOVA INK MOU FOR CARBON DIOXIDE TO METHANE CONVERSION PROJECT

As part of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources' adoption of a clear vision and action plan for energy transition and emission reduction in all oil and natural gas activities, focusing on expanding natural gas usage as fuel, improving energy consumption efficiency, carbon removal, expanding new energy production, and petrochemical projects that contribute to environmental preservation, hydrogen, and low-carbon ammonia production. Due to Sidpec's interest in expanding carbon emission reduction projects and innovative green projects. During the second day of EGYPS 2024, Eng./ Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Company (Sidpec) and Hitachi Zosen Inova (HZI) to initiate technical studies for establishing a unit to convert carbon dioxide produced from production processes into methane for use as gaseous fuel for boilers and cracking furnaces. The project is one of the environmentally friendly green projects that utilize hydrogen surplus, maximize its value by converting it into methane, reduce carbon emissions, and contribute to reducing operating costs, maximizing production economics, benefiting the company's profitability, and improving the carbon footprint. The agreement was signed by Eng./ Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of Sidpec, and Mr. Wotif Friedge and Mr. Fabio Daniel, Vice Presidents of Hitachi Zosen, with the presence of leaders from both companies.
